LesPlan supports Bicycles for Humanity. This non-profit, grassroots organization collects and ships used bikes from communities across Canada to Africa. There, a partner organization, BEN Bikes, distributes the bikes and trains locals in bike repair and maintenance.
Bicycles for Humanity and BEN Bikes are helping to transform lives in Africa by giving people a more efficient way to get around. In a country with few and poor roads, where even water can be a day's walk away, those with bikes can accomplish so much more. It's easier to get to clinics for medical help, to school for an education, and to just about anywhere else when you can take a bike instead of walking.
For the past two years, LesPlan has helped sponsor the shipment of a container of bicycles to Namibia from Victoria, B.C. If your school is interested in becoming involved in the collection of bicycles or in fundraising to pay for shipping costs for a B4H chapter in your community, you can find information to help you get started on the Bicycles for Humanity website: www.bicycles-for-humanity.org/
